Soco – Wizkid ft Terri, Spotless and Ceeza Mili
Arguably the biggest song of the year in terms of numbers. Wizkid’s ‘Soco’ has over 33 million views on YouTube and over 14 million streams on Spotify alone. The Northboi produced song featured Terri, Spotless and Ceeza Milli. This infectious banger was released 9 months ago and it’s still on rotation today. Here’s a fun fact for you., ‘did you know the word ‘soco’ was mentioned 85 times on the song?’
Askamaya – Teni
Teni is the rookie the Nigerian music industry has been searching for for a long time. She oozes pure talent and impeccable songwriting. Her breakout hit this year ‘Askamaya’ had everybody finally paying attention to her music.
Ye – Burna boy
2018 was the year of the ‘YE’ and we are not talking Kanye because the only ‘Ye’ we recognized this year was Burna’s ‘Ye’. ‘Ye’ was track 7 on Burna boy’s impressive ‘Outside’ album and also our unofficial national anthem this year. Song was so good, it even made a another viral hit a hit. Guess Burna’s ‘Ye’ is different from everybody else’s
So Mi So – Wande Coal
This is one of those song you just feel on a spiritual level. Juls and Wande Coal combo worked.
Energy (Stay Far Away) Skepta & Wizkid
Tell me this wasn’t the quote of the year for you ‘bad energy stay far away’. Skepta and Wizkid just need to stop playing and give us this collaboration mixtape or album.
Amaka – 2baba ft Peruzzi
We don’t know how 2baba keeps doing it but he has always stayed consistent and he keeps reinventing himself. This collaboration with new comer Peruzzi was a vibe. This was a banger from the beginning of the year to the end. Raise your hand if Amaka didn’t disappoint you this year.
Wetin We Gain – Victor AD
This was undoubtedly the street song of the year. As controversial as the song may be, it was a very good song. It gave a lot of people hope because of the subject matter of the song and according to Victor Ad, he poured his heart out on the song and hope the people felt it …and boy did they feel it.
Assurance – Davido
Porsche aside, his girlfriend Chioma aside. Davido got it right on this song. Publicity stunt or not. Davido had the word ‘assurance’ on everybody lips and the song on everybody’s playlist.
Lova Lova -Tiwa Savage ft Duncan Mighty
Tiwa had a pretty controversial year this year but that didn’t stop her from doing what she knows how to do best. The Mavin Records first lady teamed up with the most featured artist in Nigerian music this year, Duncan Mighty and gave us ‘Lova Lova’
Motigbana – Olamide
It was a quiet year for Olamide by Olamide standards we mean but the self proclaimed king of the streets still managed to give us a hit single in ‘Motigbana’.
