The 2018 Met Gala truly delivered in terms of majestic, dramatic looks that will be remembered for years to come.
Celebrities didn’t fail to show up on the red carpet in their interpretation of this year’s theme, Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination, which focuses on religion iconography and influence in fashion.
While Rihanna’s sartorial tribute to the pope stole the style crown, there was strong competition this year – from Amal Clooney to Blake Lively. See which looks impressed us the most.
As with other Met Galas, Rihanna demonstrated her understanding of the theme with her ornate, pearl-encrusted Maison Margiela dress worn with a matching sculptured jacket and papal inspired headdress. In total, the outfit took 250 hours to sew and 500 hours to hand embroider in Paris.
If Rihanna was the queen of the Met Gala, Zendaya was surely the princess in her silver Versace tribute to Joan of Arc.
AMAL CLOONEY AND GEORGE CLOONEY
Amal Clooney brought her signature chic to the red carpet in the form of Richard Quinn bustier with a dramatic train, worn with cigarette pants.
SARAH JESSICA PARKER
Sarah Jessica Parker turned to kings of splendour, Dolce & Gabbana, for her high octane gold look. She also displayed a commitment to the theme with her towering hat, which featured nativity scenes.
Rosie Huntington-whiteley was one of many stars to choose an angelic look in a caped Ralph Lauren gown, topped with a gold halo.
Points to Katy Perry for her enthusiasm to dress code in her giant feathered wings and gold Versace dress.
Blake Lively’s elaborate Versace gown took 600 hours to make and was so big that she was forced to travel to the event in a bus, rather than a car.
Priyanka Chopra balances simplicity with splendour in her velvet burgundy Ralph Lauren dress and bejeweled gold hold.
Diane Kruger’s Prabal Gurung mini dress featured a dramatic train befitting of the grand occasion. While the actress look didn’t so much as nod to the theme (or was the blue shade a nod to the virgin Mary?), she did offer a lesson in how to make the red carpet look modern and stylish.
Kate Bosworth mimicked the stature of the Weeping Madonna in her dream like Oscar de la Renta gown, featuring another lengthy train and celestial veil encrusted with pearls.
Now, regardless of how they look, there are certain people that should just never miss this list. But in any case, Kim Kardashian-West, Cardi B and SOlange knowles definitely did us proud. They looked stunning also.
