2 Chainz has revealed that he plans to leave the record label Def Jam and go independent. The Atlanta rapper told Zane Lowe on Apple Music recently: “I been with Def Jam for a long time. That’s my home right there. It’s no bad blood over there, I love what they’re doing. I’m just coming into another layer, another section in life to where it’s just about owning more.”

Chainz let Lowe know that leaving Def Jam isn’t definite, and could change based on how negotiations proceed. “Who knows? I might stick around. … But for now, I’m looking forward to possibly being independent by the end of the year and rocking out with my guys.”

2Chainz has released five albums with the legendary label, beginning with his debut Based on a T.R.U. Story in 2012 to last year’s Rap or Go to the League.

Chainz also discussed his new single “Dead Man Walking,” in collaboration with Future.
