Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State, on Monday, passed a bill on the new sanction for the offence of kidnapping in Ogun State into law.
The bill, now law, provides that the maximum punishment for the offence of kidnapping is 25 years jail term.
The bill which includes the offences of armed robbery, cultism and other related offences was passed into law at low-key ceremony inside the office of the governor.
Persons in attendance were the speaker of the house, Suraj Adekunbi and other principal members of the house, the State Commissioner if Police, Ahmed Illiyasu, State Director, State Security Service, Kabiru Sali, Commissioner of Justice and Attorney of the State, Olumide Ayen and other members of the executive council.
Governor Amosun stated, “Kidnapping is alien to us in this part of the country and we have come to put an end to it as it now attracts 25 years jail term”
The Commissioner of police stated that it is a signal to criminals to move away from the state and he warned that any person caught for these violent crimes shall face the full wrath of the law.
