A 26 year old undergraduate of the Ekiti State University has been arrested by the officers of the Ibadan zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on allegations of internet fraud.
The undergraduate on whom the EFCC found a Voter’s Card and a debit card bearing Obohor John Damilola went by a pseudonym ‘Sergeant Frank Mcghee’.
The accused is said to use his psuedonym on military dating sites, where he perpetrates his fraudulent activities on unsuspecting victims.
He posed as a Nigeria-based U.S. army officer and defrauded some persons of some sums of money amounting to N7, 453, 799.
The 26 year old is accused of defrauding one L.D Marte of N6,216,732; and one P. Martinez of N672,887. He also defrauded one E. Rosales N30,065 and one R. Rosario of N534,115.
The bank at Ado Ekiti through which he recieved the monies from his victims suspected fishy deals and notified the EFCC.
The undergraduate confessed that he did it in order to be able to raise money for his education.
