There are few photographers in Nigeria that understand the delicate balance that exists between fashion and art and Lakin is one such photographer. The balance of marrying both worlds together is down to a point of view, a way of seeing things that most people may not understand.
Lakin is a self-taught Nigerian born photographer. He began practicing his art during his University days studying Law in Babcock University, Nigeria and Buckingham University, UK. After years of doing this, he decided to go to Paris to officially professionalize his talent at the Speos Photography Institute in 2012.
When he returned to Nigeria, he immediately gained momentum and buzz in the fashion industry for his unique and extraordinary way of capturing fashion. As a photography artist, he challenges the way we see fashion and he does this with utmost confidence and creativity. A glimpse of his images will give you a whole new perspective on fashion.
Within a few years, Lakin had gotten a portfolio that is made up of several exhibitions, like his 2014 Solo exhibition at Didi museum Lagos titled ‘Muse’ and “Portraits” at the Rooke & Van Wyk gallery in Johannesburg, South Africa in 2013.
He has also worked with some of the biggest African and International talents and his unique approach of capturing simplicity with great colours and perspective, gained him a top spot on CNN’s profile of “Africa’s most exciting New Photographers”.
Lakin was also recognised by the British Journal of Photography as one of the Top 25 photographers of 2015 in their annual “ones to watch” edition.
Other solo exhibitions include “New Work” (2014) at WHATIFTHEWORLD and “are we good enough” in 2015. His group exhibitions include “dey your lane” at BOZAAR, Lagos Photo festival 2016 and Art x Lagos in Nigeria.
His works have also been featured in New York Times, ID Online, British GQ, Harpers Bazaar and Riposte magazine.
Hence why we are excited to share with you a group of images created by this very talented photographer, exclusively for Accelerate Fashion called FASHION MEETS ART.
