Getting your home ready for the holidays can be rough, but – Is there anything better than the holiday season? The weather feels nicer, the scenery is beautiful, people start getting in better spirits as vacation time comes around and the friends and family just naturally want to be together. That’s where it can get stressful. Is the house clean enough? Where will people sleep? Can everyone be accommodated? Can I afford to fix things up? These are all questions that run anyone’s mind as they think about holiday hosting. What was once a happy thought of seeing friends and family quickly turns into a full-fledged panic attack? There’s no need to worry though! Getting ready for the holidays does not have to be a stressful event. Here are 5 easy ways to get your home ready for the holidays:
Throughout the year things get placed and stuffed in all sorts of places throughout the house. So one of the easiest and least expensive things that can be done to get a holiday-ready home is to do a little fall cleaning. Start by decluttering the most commonly used rooms like the living room, guest rooms, bathrooms and kitchen.
Whether it’s the out of town sibling or the friend that stayed a little too late to drive back home, space can almost always become an issue when it comes to holiday entertaining. A great way to increase space to make a home more holiday-ready is to increase storage areas. This can be done by purchasing storage bins, under the bed bins and draws and decluttering already filled up bins. When storage in the home is increased it allows for things to disappear that don’t belong in common areas. It also ends up making spaces feel more spacious and comfortable.
Stock up on extras
During holiday entertaining, it’s always good to think that someone may need to stay over. It happens, and when it does, you don’t want to be caught unprepared.
Stocking up on extra linens, pillowcases, towels, shower robes and toothbrushes is an easy way to stay prepared. Making a guest basket with soap, a toothbrush, toothpaste, slippers, towel and lotions is a great way to say you’re always welcome here. Loading up on extra paper towels, toilet paper and snacks helps as well.
Get festive and decorate
Decorating will always make or break a mood. Holiday colour dining room table runners, a wreath, flower arrangements, stockings, and pumpkins are great ways to feel like its holiday time. Many people don’t consider that decorating the air can be just as important. Scented candles, wall plugins, plants and flowers will round out the entire holiday feel.
Paint your dining room for a fresh new look
Painting the dining room or kitchen is the best way to get the home holiday ready. Not only does it create a different look, but it makes the most important rooms of the house feel brand new. Just having a new coat of paint makes the room feel new, clean, updated and ready for entertaining.
