The actual act of breaking up with a partner isn’t great at the best of times, but something that can compound those negative feelings and make your life a potential misery long after the actual breakup is if you are in a situation where you have to see your ex every single day! You might go to college with them or you might work with them, but whatever your personal circumstances are, it’s definitely not ideal! Here is how to get over an ex that you see every day.
If you know you are going to have to spend an extended amount of time in the same building or vicinity as them, then try to keep yourself as busy as possible doing tasks that you know won’t involve them. Not only will it help to make the time go faster, but you will also manage to distract yourself and not have to think about your ex-being potentially just around the corner.
Short & simple
If you are in the situation where you actually do have to interact with them on a regular basis, then keep things as short and as simple as possible. Maintain a civility between yourself and your ex that extends only to the normal courtesies. You don’t have to do anything more than keep your manners.
Don’t seek them out
It can be extremely tempting to put yourself in a position where you accidentally bump into them a lot, but for your own sake, you shouldn’t be trying to do this. You aren’t going to be able to get over the breakup if you still have feelings and are in their presence all the time. It’s best to go as cold turkey as you can, even if that means moving around some of your daily responsibilities.
Stick with friends
Try to surround yourself with a group of good colleagues or friends who have your best interests at heart and will do everything they can to prevent you from making mistakes and coming into more contact with your ex than you strictly need to.
Don’t think about your ex, think about yourself instead. The longer you find ways to see them in your life, the longer it will take for you to move on. And ideally, you should be moving on as quickly as possible.
