Add colours to your home by learning these easy to make decorations. Don’t let the recession damping your spirit. These DIY home decorations for Christmas are simple and fun to make.

Ankara Wreath

This is very easy to make. Get an old iron cloth hanger and try to make it round. Then get Ankara pieces and glue them all together on the round hanger. Make sure it is colourful and neat. Then add ornaments, sparkle dust and jewels. There you go…you have made yourself a wreath.

Chrismas Tree Shelf

Get some wood and cut them into sizes. Glue them together to make 4 triangular shapes. Place the triangle on one another and there you have a shelf. Take out old boxes and wrap them with some colourful and bright paper wrappers. Put a ribbon on them and place them on the shelf. Hang this somewhere in your living room.

Jar Christmas Tree

Do you have old jars of jam? Don’t trash them yet. Clean them about 5 bottles properly and put ornaments and glass beads inside them, You can stick jewellery on the jam bottles. Do you have old Christmas light? Wrap them around the already arranged bottles and voila, you have a DIY made-with-glass Christmas tree. This is a cute and easy way to dress up your mantel or entryway or dining table.

Scarf Wreath 

It doesn’t get any easier than this: A colourful scarf, wire wreath frame and 5 minutes of your time is all it takes. Pick out any colourful scarf of yours and just twist it around the wire wreath frame. Don’t glue as the scarf can be reused.

Got an old Scrabble game you stopped playing? Make some pieces into word ornaments with wire, beads, a drill and scrapbook paper. Write names of your loved ones and hang them on the tree.

Merry Garland

From sheets of cardboard paper, cut letters freehand or use a stencil. Glue them onto the ribbon and hang with cloth tape. Hang them on  your favourite spots in the home.
