AC Milan has sacked coach Vincenzo Montella as manager and replaced him with Youth coach and former player Gennaro Gattuso after a poor run of results which have seen them placed seventh on the Serie A table with just 20 points.

Gattuso, who played for Milan between 1999 and 2013, winning the Serie A title and the Champions League twice, will appear at a news conference at their Milanello training ground on Tuesday.

AC Milan, who spent £205m on new signings since Chinese businessman Li Yonghong took control in April last year, have failed to finish in the top three in the Serie A since 2013.
