Tanzania’s Vanessa Mdee is all set to invade your charts, streaming services and your speakers now and in the future. The former  VJ has made a seamless transition from a video jockey to recording artist and after winning countless awards and becoming her own boss by owning her own record label. Vanessa Mdee is next in line for African domination. Here’s what she tells us she’s up to.

How’s Vanessa feeling today?
Fantastic! Everyday above the ground is a fantastic day
What’s your favorite African city so far?
Dar es Salaam
Why do you think East African music hasn’t been as popular (internationally) as the western afrobeats music
I believe this is because we do not have as many East Africans living in the diaspora therefore we deal with a smaller market
What would be your dream Nigerian collaboration?
I have some beautiful music already out there. I am more than open to continue to make great music with more artists from Nigeria just as much as I am ready to collaborate with artists from other African countries
On a scale of 1 to 10 how much of a feminist are you?
My Scale is not in numbers but in solutions. My CSR for the next five years strongly deals on the Girl Child. My foundation which is just about a year old, ‘UDada Foundation’ brings this out largely. My goal is to change the narrative of the Girl Child

What part of the music business would you invest money in, if you wanted to be a full time business person?
I am the CEO of Mdee Music, I am already investing in my artists and the music business
What is Vanessa currently working on and what do you urge us all to go check out if we haven’t?
I am currently doing a media run for my latest single That’s For Me, ft Distruction Boys, Dj Tira and Prince Bulo. Also preparing for two major international festivals that I’m performing at Essence and AfroNation
