Tobi Opusunju is the brain behind Ankhor shoes business and his mantra is quite simple: ‘There’s more than one way to achieve success.’
The shoe designer is a graduate of Foreign Languages from the University of Benin and he loves to multi task.
Speaking to Accelerate TV about his business, Tobi says he does not believe corporate work should stop a person from having a skill or business on the side.
He disclosed that the vision that birthed his interest on shoemaking stemmed from a six-month break he had while he was a student.
He said: “As a foreign language student, I had to travel to a Francophone country for a compulsory one-year study period. I went to Togo. Upon my return in 2014, I had a six-month break before returning to school, so I thought to put it to good use, by learning how to make shoes and I have loved it ever since.”
Tobi chose not to be discouraged by the country’s economic situation, as he continued to expand and evolve his business.
The entrepreneur makes all kinds of male and female shoes, including corporates, casuals, sandals, slippers, broncs, double monk straps, among others.
He has made shoes for CEOs, celebrities, among others and his business thrives majorly by word of mouth testimonies and social media.
Ankhor shoes CEO had this advice for young people who wish to be successful:
“I believe in multiple streams of income. I like to multitask, so I channel my energy into exploring different options and taking opportunities as they come. People will always want to beat you down, but believe in yourself and you will achieve a lot. You must believe and make the move. You must always strive to evolve and up your game.”
