Oko Ebombo is a singer, songwriter and poet. He was raised in the tenth arrondissement in the beautiful Paris and got introduced to the arts through dance. He has held his own photographic exhibition titled Okosexuel and made the opening of the Pigalle AW15 menswear fashion show on to remember with his amazing vocals.
He is the frontman of his band, 19. Back in 2009, he engaged in a musical project that mixes elements of moment and poetry, and is inspired by his life and urban experiences. ‘iro’ and ‘naked’ the only two tracks he has released to date have roots in jazz with the artist enunciating each lyric with his beautiful French dialect.
His band’s first music video, “Naked Life” was directed by Ebombo himself. It features hazy shots of the singer wandering the streets at night in a half-black, half-white suit, an effect he later replicates on his own skin. His ‘iro’ video also involves hazy shots as he performs around Tokyo. His dancing skills which introduced him to the art was showcased in this video. ‘Naked Life’ isn’t the artist first work with moving image. Under his Vizioneer project, he makes a ‘visual poetry’. He uses a Super 8 camera to create enigmatic shorts, from “Ma Chambre Noire”, where he’s seen leading a dance troupe, to “Moon Dance”, where he appears prancing in the snow. Expect more artistic activities from the minstrel in 2016.
