We made it! The final day of the accelerate filmmaker project.
Bobo Omotayo, Writer, PR professional and marketer, started the day with the final masterclass marketing and public relations in nollywood. He talked about the importance of filmmaking in changing the world’s image of Nigeria.
Omotayo emphasised how the strength of the director’s voice can contribute to selling a movie and that the PR team should be involved from the beginning of the making of the movie, plus the need for behind-the-scenes updates.
After the final class, the filmmakers quickly put the final touches to their pitches, curating all the advice they had gained during the week from all the talented teachers. With the help of the teachers, they compiled and finalized their preparations of their final pitches.
Before the final pitches, there was quick Q&A with all the mentors: Joke Silva, Mildred Okwo, Seyi Babatope, Niyi Akinmolayan, Victor Sanchez, and Daniel Oriahi. They gave the filmmakers last minute advice on how to tweak their pitches and told the filmmakers the unique stories of how they got started in Nollywood.
After the panel, the pitches finally began. Each of the filmmakers came in and pitched their story to the judges. After 2 hours, the time finally came to choose the final five.
The five chosen were Samuel Sirme, Charles Obi Emere, Ozioma Ogbaji, Bola Akanbi and finally Chidinma Igokweuche who had the most likes on Instagram.
But it was not over yet; due to their amazing pitches, Seun Richards and Joey Adeboye were combined as Director and Cinematographer to create Seun’s film, Wallflower.
After an intense week of classes, each filmmaker, even those not chosen, went away with books full of advice. Now we are looking forward to seeing the development of each of the selected films.
