If the assertion of Nigeria’s Super Eagles Franco-German coach, Gernot Rohr is anything to go by, then Nigeria born Chelsea prodigy Ola Aina will make his competitive debut for Super Eagles of Nigeria in June by the time they confront Bafana Bafana of South Africa in the qualifier of AFCON 2019.
Aina, who has represented in the junior Three Lions at all levels and had even encouraged his younger brother, Jordan Aina to play for England, trained with the Nigerian team at Barnet in England last month in the quest to make his debut in the game against Burkinafaso before the game was botched due to logistics reason.
Speaking in Lagos, Rohr stressed that “he trained with us and we hope to have him in camp in France ahead of the Nations Cup qualifier against South Africa.”
Still, some quarters ponder on how and which position Aina will fit into the squad even though he seemingly is a good prospect.
Aina is currently having a makeshift season with his club Chelsea featuring only in League Cup and FA cup games after playing the full 90 mins in all of the club’s pre-season games.
