Beyoncé’s Album Lion King: The Gift dropped last week and it is truly a celebration of African skin, tune and beauty.
She released the video to song Spirit, theme song for Lion King movie some days before the album was released.
The video, shot on the panoramic elements of Havasu Falls in the Havasupai Reservation in Arizona saw Beyoncé cast gloried against the backdrop of a nature’s rich scenic.
From visuals to choreography, the video evokes striring emotions as the undulating bodies, striking vocals and warm burst of colors conjures the true beauty of the motherland Africa.
On the album the gifted Beyoncé commented:
“The soundtrack is a love letter to Africa and I wanted to make sure we found the best talent from Africa, and not just use some of the sounds and did my own interpretation of it,” Beyoncé told Robin Roberts. “I wanted it to be authentic to what is beautiful about the music in Africa.”
“The concept of the video is to show how God is the painter, and natural beauty in nature needs no art direction,” the 37-year-old explained. “It’s the beauty of colour, the beauty of melanin, the beauty of tradition.”
Beyoncé not just talked the talk about celebrating Africa as this was deeply reflected in choice of style for the video.
The Grammy awards winner sported a black and white suit set by Senegalese brand, Tongoro Studio. The rest of her outfits in the video, as styled by her preferred stylist, Zerina Akers.
From flighty dresses with dramatic swirls and frays, fringe jumpsuits and monochromatic styles, a cowry-bedazzled ensemble and of course, Blue Ivy fashion looks.
