The Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards is the biggest African event in the world of make-belief (film making). In fact, a lot of people have been known to refer to the ceremony as the ‘Nigerian Oscars’. This is why celebrities spend weeks, even months sourcing for the best outfits to slay on the red carpet. But naturally, some just do it better than others.
This year was no different, as everyone seemed to have a statement to make in the fashion scene at the ceremony. More than that, Accelerate bagged an award as well, so you can see why we can’t shut up about the event.
You can also get the full list of winners here. But that’s not why we are here. We bring you our opinion on the eye-catching looks from the AMVCA 2018 red carpet. There was as much to say as there was to see:
Cynthia ‘Cee-C’ Nwadiora
With class and curves enough to carry, ex BBN housemate Cee-C took the red carpets in a storm wearing this shimmering LDA dress. With matching gold accessories and a beauty that channelled Marilyn Monroe, she had never looked more gorgeous.
Hailed as the Queen of the red carpets Rita Dominic this year didn’t disappoint. She was styled by Tubo in a cobalt blue gown sporting fitted column skirt and voluminous taffeta bodice bedecked with beaded floral finish. With great hair and flawless makeup, Rita definitely brought home the look.
In a world of careful fashion, BamBam stands out. Risqué in a unique feathered piece by House of Jahdara, BamBam’s outfit for the night was a straight “love me or leave me”. No standing in the grey. And we totally loved. Daring, Unconventional and incredibly fabulous, Bambam channelled her inner Lady Gaga and pulled of a head-turning piece.
Fashion girl from the start, we were not much surprised when Ini-dima Okojie shone through the red carpet. Styled in a gold jacquard Fablane by Derin dress with origami detailing, a deep side slit with black satin cascading side train, she was a sight to behold. Standout hairstyle and shimmering accessories went on to further accentuate the dramatic style.
With the creative combo of Toni Tones and designer Yemi Shoyemi, we sure weren’t surprised with this statement piece. Toni Tones served classic princess ball gown with beaded bodice and a full flare train skirt with a high slit.
Yvonne Nwosu draped know in the now famous brocade/jacquard trend in a pale blue number with gold baroque leaf detailing was definitely one of the standout looks of the night. The Bolbous pleated skirt with seafoam green lining, which parted to reveal tiny matching shorts with finger waved hair in a bun completely sealed the amazing look.
Oluwabusayo “Koko” Abiri
Elegance and class sure came to rest on former BBnaija house mate as she graced the red carpets styled in elegante by Tiannah classic strapless ballgown dress.
In her usual sense of impeccable style and taste for the dramatic, Lilian Afegbai looked absolutely stunning in Nonnistics Fashion. Her lace dress which displayed a high neck and lace up corset-style detail at the back with a fishtail silhouette behind was adorned with a black patent clutch and gold earrings and a halo hairstyle with glossy makeup completed her look.
Not really hard to spot a Mai Atafo piece now, is it? Ebuka in this this tux with its ivory dress jacket and satin shawl collar lapel, with dress shoes to go, he sure looked suave and dapper.
In this classic tuxedo with the Isi-Agu prints, this CN Daniels piece and Blossom was a pair made in heaven. Patent leather shoes and a velvet bowtie polished off the look
Tobi looked every inch the suave gentleman he truly is swathed in a vibrant blue Reves Clothing Co tuxedo with contrast black lapels.
Uti in a Femi Toys brocade tux was every inch stylish and dapper.
Leo Da Silva
Every inch classic, the BB Naija ex housemate refined red carpet perfection in purple velvet Kimono Kollection and Givenchy.
