If you’re looking for age and body goals inspiration then search no more; Angela Bassett is all you need. And more…
25 years after she sculpted her body to play the life of Tina Turner in the eighties movie “what’s love got to do with”, 59-year-old actress, Angela Bassett is still sporting that flawless face and toned bod as she covers online retailer Net-a-Porter magazine’s latest issue, The Porter Edit.
Styled by Saint Laurent in series of animal print pieces and sporting a full mane of her natural kinky curls, the How Stella Got Her Groove Back superstar has once again proved the decades begone have got nothing on her. Though these days she’s accruing for herself fresher audience with her roles in television series 9-1-1 and as a CIA Director, Erica Sloan in the upcoming Mission Impossible- Fall Out and off course in the significant role in the 2018 marvel blockbuster movie Black Panther, which the actress says she’s particularly proud of.
“Black Panther has definitely brought me a broader audience … The audience for it has been from six years old to 86. Every now and again, something comes along that moves movie culture forward, and Panther definitely sits on that throne. To have a black male superhero, but also to have strong, complicated, vivid, black female characters was special. Usually we are just the mothers of, the lovers of … Culturally, socially, it just resonates on so many different levels, and I’m so proud to be a part of it,” she told the magazine.
She also speaks on major changes that need to occur in Hollywood
“There are more roles, but if you look at the statistics, there are more platforms, more opportunities, for everyone,” she says. “So, when you actually dive into the percentages, they’re still the same. There’s always still work to do on this house.”
She maintains she’s still very choosy of roles she plays on screen
“I’ve had to protect myself from being led by the finance of it; I can’t start with, ‘Well, how much are they paying?’ I can’t be led by that,” she says. “You cannot dance to every record. You must sit some out.”
On her 21 years marriage to actor and Emmy Award Winner, Courtney B. Vance and how they’ve kept it going so far, the actress shared:
“Well, he always said divorce is not an option. I’ve always told him: ‘Do what you want to do’ – meaning pursue his dreams – ‘because I don’t want you to get to the end and blame anything on me.”
On how she stays so fit and young at her age she says:
“Diet is 85 percent of the whole thing for me,” she tells the magazine, saying that she’s “regimented and rigorous” about what she eats.
“I’ll try to get to the hotel gym and do 30 minutes of cardio, and lift a couple of weights or something,” she says. “But I’m not getting up at 4 a.m. to work out.”
