Angelina Jolie is adding another gig to her curriculum vitae, which is contributing editor for Time magazine.

Time announced recently that the 43-year-old actress and philanthropist will write a piece every month, focusing primarily on displacement, conflict and human rights. Her work will appear across Time’s global platforms.

Jolie’s first essay, “Angelina Jolie: What We Owe Refugees,” was published online Wednesday, in honour of World Refugee Day, and will appear in the July 1 issue of the print magazine.

“Everyone deserves dignity and fair treatment, but we need to be clear about the distinction,” she writes in part in the piece. “Under international law, it is not an option to assist refugees, it is an obligation. It is perfectly possible to ensure strong border control and fair, humane immigration policies while meeting our responsibility to help refugees.”

Edward Felsenthal, the editor in chief and CEO of Time, said Jolie’s writing will “draw on her eighteen years working with the UN Refugee Agency.”

In 2001, Jolie became a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations, and in 2010 a special envoy for the UN’s Refugee Agency the High Commissioner for Refugees. She has carried out over 60 field missions to refugees, including those in Colombia, Peru and Bangladesh.
