It’s now officially week 7 of the Ask Damz 12 Week Challenge and things are going great. We’ve been seeing all you guys’ hard work on our social media and can’t believe the results!
Have you been participating? You better be! And in case you didn’t know about it, watch all about it here (and prepare to join!)
We know that not everyone is on the AskDamz programme (but if you’re not, you might want to change that because it’s truly awesome) so we’re giving helpful tips every week to help make this challenge a little easier.
Last week we talked about the importance of weighing yourself regularly. And today is all about keeping things realistic.
Just as weight tends to creep up over time, shedding excess pounds takes time. Don’t expect to be able to lose 10 pounds a week (any diet that says you can is counting on water losses, not fat loss). Small and steady losses—about one to two pounds a week—usually win the race in the long term. For most people, losing just 5 to 10 per cent of body weight will provide health benefits. Also keep in mind that, depending on your body type and genetics, you may never be able to get back to your high school or college weight. And if you and your family members tend to have a certain body shape (like a pear, for example), weight loss will result in overall slimming but won’t reshape your body.
So don’t get mad at your body when things aren’t moving as fast as you would expect. And be sure to keep your expectations grounded in reality. Just because you skipped dinner does not mean you’re going to wake up looking like Gigi Hadid.
Check back next week for more tips!
