Novak Djokovic has returned to the world number one spot, just five months after slumping to his lowest ranking in 12 years and looks likely to the end the year there following Nadal’s injury woes.

The Serb is back on the, at the end of a roller-coaster season for the 14-time major winner.

The 31-year old who underwent elbow surgery in January and slipped to 22nd in the world after a depressing quarter-final exit at Roland Garros in June, is topping the log for the first time in two years.

Nadal is at the number 2 spot while Roger Federer is at the number 3 spot.

Meanwhile, Nadal will not be attending the season-ending ATP finals after he underwent a successful surgery on his plagued knee, the Spaniard announced earlier today.
