Australia’s women’s football team, the Matildas, have struck a historic deal which will see them earn equal pay and entitlements on many key measures.
According to the Football Federation Australia (FFA) this means the top male and female players will be on the same pay scale.
However, in their respective tournaments, the prize money is greater in mens tournaments than female tournaments.
Australia’s womens team are currently ranked 8th in the world whilst the mens team sit in 44th.
Top female players will also see a significant boost to their salary – now A$100,000 (£53,000; $69,000).
This is a huge step for equal pay and we can only hope more nations follow suit.
