James Cameron, the Director of the now ex-highest grossing movie of all time, Avatar has congratulated Marvel for taking over the title.
The fit was reached by Marvel through Avengers: Endgame this past weekend after the re-released movie took it to $2.79 billion in ticket sales, putting Avatar in second place at $2.789 billion.
Cameron tweeted his congratulations from the official Avatar Twitter account. The tweet consisted of Iron Man surrounded by wood sprites from the film with a caption reading “Oel ngati kameie,” which is Na’vi for “I see you.”
Avengers: Endgame is the sequel to 2012’s The Avengers, 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, and 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War and the 22nd film in the Marvel cinematic universe and the fourth blockbuster in the Avengers series.
The film, which was first released on 25 April stars Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson and Chris Hemsworth. It earned $1.22bn in its initial April release, achieving the biggest global opening of all time.
