Nice star Mario Balotelli has been ruled out for three weeks, after suffering an injury during shooting practice.
The former struggling striker, made a move to the French side from Liverpool, at the start of the season. His impact was immediately felt, as he scored goal after goal for his new side. A sharp contrast to his form in the English Premier League while he was at Liverpool.
Balotelli has led his side to the top of the Ligue 1 table, with 7 goals, since his arrival at the club.
The injury was responsible for Balotelli’s absence in Nice’s 2-0 defeat to Schalke in the Europa League. As a result, they were unable to secure a last 32 spot and have now crashed out of the competition.
“He won’t be available for the three matches to come over the next 10 days, that’s for sure,” said Favre.
“For the matches that come after that, we don’t know yet.”
The Ligue 1 champions will also be without defender Paul Baysse for the rest of the year because of a knee tendon complaint.
Going into Sunday’s meeting with Bastia, Nice hold a three-point lead over Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain at the top. They have not won Ligue 1 since 1959, this might be their time.
