Disney and cast members of the remake of Beauty and the Beast will be drooling and salivating at the performance of the live-action musical at the global box office!
Why? This is because the live-action adaptation of the movie has earned $1 billion at the global box office. This makes it the biggest-grossing film in 2017 and highest live-action musical in history. It surpasses the earnings of musicals like Cinderella, the Alice in Wonderland films, and The Jungle Book.
Interestingly, Disney now has 14 of the 29 movies to earn $1 billion and above. The last film to make the list was Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
The question on the minds of many is how much can Beauty and the Beast earn? Regardless, it still has a long way to go before it joins the $2 billion exclusive earnings class which includes Avatar, Titanic and Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
The movie which gulped around $300 million to produce was well received despite the mixed reactions to featuring a passing gay moment.
The movie stars Emma Watson, Dan Stevens, Emma Thompson, Ewan McGregor, Kevin Kline, Audra McDonald, Luke Evans, Josh Gad, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Stanley Tucci and Ian McKellen.
