You would be super surprised at what this old wives tale can do to your skin. We’re pretty sure we have all been there when we are dead broke and we don’t have the money to get our facial products and then boom, a spot appears from nowhere. In a bid to work out the most effective way to get rid of spots, we’ve tried almost everything- creating our own homemade face masks in the kitchen, squirting lemon juice on our skin, cracking egg after egg to smear their whites all over our face in hopes all with the hope of zapping our zits. But the one trick we always resort back to is good old toothpaste. Other zit eliminating methods come and go but toothpaste stars eternal. The thing is though, does it really work?

According to a Nigerian dermatologist based in New York, toothpaste has a drying effect on pimples which can help reduce redness and inflammation shortening the life cycle of the blemish. Toothpaste contains certain indigents like baking soda, hydrogen peroxide, alcohol, menthol essential oils, all ingredients that cause pimples to dry out. But there are some disadvantages- toothpaste will irritate the skin. So the pimple will go. But your skin will be red and bothered for a little bit. And that irritation might leave lasting effects.
Long story short? Don’t use toothpaste kids. Sadly, we have to just let the pimples be. But with a proper face care routine, you hopefully won’t have pimples to worry about.
