It was a pleasant surprise when pop goddess, Beyonce, made a surprise appearance at the Sports Illustrated Person of the Year event to present an award.
Beyonce, whose name had been kept a secret all week, presented the Muhammed Ali Legacy award to Colin Kaepernick for his roles in fighting racism.
Her appearance had been kept a secret all week, as reports note that “by contract, we couldn’t mention her name in any internal docs. Her nickname all week was Catherine Jones.”
Speaking before she presented the award, Beyonce said: “Thank you Colin Kaepernick. Thank you for your selfless heart and your conviction. Thank you for your personal sacrifice.
“Colin took action with no fear of consequences or repercussion. Only hope to change the world for the better. To change perception, to change the way we treat each other, especially people of colour. We’re still waiting for the world to catch up…”

Recall that Colin Kaepernick began what is now known as the Kaepernick effect, where sports players across the United States began kneeling during the national anthem in protest of racism in the country.
