IN CONTRAST TO THE ‘NO DEAL FOR THE RELEASE OF 21 CHIBOK GIRLS’.
CNN has reported that, in contrast to what the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) had said on Thursday, that there was no prisoner swap deal for the release of the 21 Chibok Girls, a source close to the negotiations between the islamist militant group and the Nigerian government said on a condition of anonymity, ‘A number of Boko Haram commanders’ were freed as part of Thursday’s release of the girls’.
CNN reports that this is in total contrast with what the Nigerian Information Minister, Lai Mohammed had said earlier on Thursday and also what a separate source, one with direct knowledge about the girls’ release told CNN, which is that, no captive of Boko Haram fighters were released in exchange for the girls.
Nigerians still do not know what the truth is. But one thing is sure, they are delighted with the return of the girls.
BUHARI – REMAINING CHIBOK GIRLS WILL REGAIN FREEDOM
President Muhammadu Buhari who spoke at a joint press conference with the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel on friday, stated that having secured the release of the 21 girls who are back home, he is optimistic that the remaining Chibok girls will be freed as well.
He stated over a 100 more of the girls are still being held by the terrorist group somewhere in the Lake Chad Basin area and that the FG will continue negotiations till all the girls are freed.
He commended the UN and the German government for their for their benevolence and philanthropic support to Nigerian in our combat against terrorism.
