Off the release of her visual album ‘Black Is King’, Beyoncé has blessed us with a stunning video for ‘Brown Skin Girl’ featuring Wizkid, Saint JHN and Blue Ivy.
The video is directed by Nigerian-British artist and director Jenn Nkiru, and features appearances by Naomi Campbell, actress Lupita Nyong’o and Kelly Rowland, Beyoncé’s fellow Destiny’s Child, Wizkid, Blue Ivy and more.
“I just think Brown skin, Black skin, dark skin, is so beautiful. I just see the divinity in it. It’s gorgeous. This was meant to be an affirmation of that. That’s the intent of it, to be an affirmation.” Nkiru said, when explaining how the video was an extension of how she viewed black people, and how she viewed herself.
Upon its release last year, the song became the most streamed song by women in SubSaharan Africa, according to Apple Music.
Beyoncé just dropped the video on Good Morning America this morning, accompanied by a statement. “It was so important to me in ‘Brown Skin Girl’ that we represented all different shades of brown,” she said.
