Nigeria’s representative in this year’s CAF Champions League, Enyimba, drew blank against 10-man Al Hilal of Sudan on Sunday in their second Preliminary Round first leg clash in Aba.
The People’s Elephant couldn’t find a cutting edge against Al Hilal even after the Sudanese side were reduced to 10 men in the first half after Nazar Named Nassr was given a red card for violent conduct.
Enyimba will travel to Sudan in a fortnight for the second leg where they hope to get a favorable score line.
In the CAF Confederations Cup, Enugu Rangers lost narrowly to Gabonese club, AS Pelican in the first leg first Round clash in Libreville on Saturday.
The Enugu-based side were beaten 2-1 with all goals coming in the first half.
The hosts raced into a two-goal lead early in the game before Nnamdi Egbujuo reduced the deficit for the Flying Antelopes before the break.
Rangers will need just a goal or more without conceding in the second leg in Enugu in two weeks’ time in order to progress.
The Flying Antelopes are looking to become the first Nigerian club to win the CAF Confederation Cup.
