The news which was confirmed by SAFA president Danny Jordan, is coming on a short notice with the competition almost six months away.

Jordan revealed that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) wants Cameroon stripped of the AFCON 2019 hosting rights due to delays in preparing for the continental showpiece.

The Safa president returned to SA on Sunday morning after attending CAF’s Extraordinary Executive Committee meeting in Accra‚ Ghana, where the decision to dump Cameroon was taken.

The last time South Africa hosted the continental championship was in 2013 which the late Stephen Keshi-led Eagles won.

The tournament will hold from June 15th to July 13th and will for the first time feature 24 teams as against the traditional 16 teams witnessed in previous editions.
