The single made a massive 93 million streams in the U.S., which is the most any track has ever generated in its first week of release. It also made a total of 125,000 downloads sold in the week. This ensured Cardi holds the new record, which was previously held by Roddy Ricch’s ‘The Box’.
‘WAP’ has also become the most streamed song in a week since billboard began to include YouTube generated content into its streaming data.
Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion released ‘WAP’ on August 7th, and It surpassed Ariana Grande’s 85.3 million streams for ‘7 Rings’ in its first week of availability (Feb. 2, 2019).
‘WAP’ marked a major landmark in Cardi’s career as it became the second most streamed song in a week by women, just below the 93.8 million streams that Ariana Grande’s ‘Thank U, Next’ achieved.
