From Oprah Winfrey, to Hillary Clinton to Beyonce and Jay-Z, numerous Hollywood A-listers made it to the grand opening of the Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta over the weekend.
The studio has already made history as the biggest film studio in the world, with some of the celebrities referring to it as an entire town.
This also makes Tyler Perry the first African American actor/director/writer/producer to own a studio outright with no partners or corporate backing.
A-list stars including Viola Davis, Ava DuVernay, Oprah Winfrey, Whoopi Goldberg, Halle Berry, Samuel L. Jackson, Tiffany Haddish and Stacey Abrams walked the carpet lined with walls adorned in roses and shared their admiration and support for Perry.
Beyonce wrote on her Instagram page: “Congratulations to Tyler Perry on the opening of his studios. I could feel our ancestors’ presence. Surrounded by my heroes, I watched Denzel, Queen Oprah, Spike, Whoopi, Sir Poitier, Will, Halle , Dame Cicely and our angels John Singleton and Diahann Carroll honored. The Armand de Brignac crashed against each soundstage as fireworks lit up the sky. Generations of blood, sweat and tears, success, excellence and brilliance. It makes me so proud, so full, I could not stop crying. Thank you my Virgo brother for so much love and passion put into every detail. My prayer today is that you will take it all in. You inspire me to dream even bigger.”
Katy Perry wrote: “I got so much admiration and respect for Tyer Perry’s new film studio in Atlanta. He’s got his own White House replica and all! Congrats.”
Will Smith, who got a sound stage named after him, wrote: “Me and @jadapinkettsmithclean up NICE! We flew down to ATL to be with @tylerperry as he opened the FIRST and largest Black-Owned studio. This moment is monumental in so many ways! And a sound stage in my name… 😳 I’m inspired and honored to be part of something of this magnitude.”
Jenifer Lewis wrote: “Tyler Perry Studios’ grand opening was an amazing historical event. Very proud of you Tyler!!!”
Ava DuVernay wrote: “Fun Fact: The studio lots f Disney, Warner Bros, Paramount, Fox and Sony could fit inside Tylre Perry’s studio lot at the same time -and there would still be 60 acres to spare. All on a former Confederate Army base. A stunning achievement that will echo through generations.”
Congratulations Tyler Perry!
