Chelsea has announced the signing of Atletico Bilbao keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga for a record fee of £71m – the highest fee ever paid for a goalkeeper – after he completed his medical yesterday.
Kepa paid his release clause to La Liga yesterday morning to fast track the move and moved straight to London to sign a seven-year contract.
The Spain’s second-choice keeper replaces Thibaut Courtois who will be unveiled at Real Madrid later today.
His transfer broke the transfer fee for a goalkeeper paid for Alisson who moved from Roma to Liverpool- a record that stood for 20 days.
Meanwhile, Mateo Kovacic also joined Chelsea on loan from Real Madrid as part of the deal that took Thibaut Courtois to the Spanish capital.
