On the latest episode of Facebook Watch’s Red Table Talk, Ciara sat down with the Pinkett-Smith family to explain what led to her breakup with Future, and how it helped her find the peace she feels today.
The singer opened up about her split from Future in 2014, just three months after the couple welcomed their son Future.
Ciara reflected on her decision to be a single mom, saying she was scared at first, but ultimately made the right decision. “I grew up with my mom and dad being together. The idea of it being mommy and daddy that made baby,” she said. “Also, you’re living your life in front of the world, so that adds a whole ‘nother layer. I feel like I’m failing right now, they gon’ roast me.”
She credits her parents for teaching her what true love is. “I had to take a couple of times to figure it out, but my dad’s love is what saved me in all my situations, because it would get to a point where I was like, my dad wouldn’t do this to my mom. This just can’t be love,” she said. “I’ve always had the same goal of wanting to be loved a certain way, but I was just walking in the wrong direction.”
In addition to her past relationship, Ciara also expressed gratitude to Wilson for accepting her for who she is and loving her the way she always wanted others to.
“Me and my husband look at each other and I’m a better woman because of him and he says he’s a better man because of me,” Ciara said. “You need those roller-coaster rides. I believe in my journey happening in front of the world for a reason.”
