If you know nothing about the ABCs of football, you will be forgiven by the football gods for thinking this Saturday’s Manchester Derby is just a joke. This is going to be the match of the year as both Manchester United and City landed two of the biggest managers in the game this summer. Mourinho and Guardiola have a rivalry that dates back to when they first met in 1997, though they did not clash as managers till 2009 when Jose Mourinho’s Inter Milan side drew 0-0 with Barcelona. The two have faced each other 16 times with Pep winning 7 times and Jose just 3. They have contested in El- Classico which is one of the biggest derbies in the world and Pep Guardiola won five of the eleven, losing just two. Both Manchester United and Manchester City will be coming into the game on great form. We at Accelerate are rooting for Manchester United as they have not lost at home since a a 1-0 defeat to Southampton on January 23 and were unbeaten at Old Trafford in all but two matches.
jose Mourinho on his rivalry with Pep Guardiola: I was in Spain for two years, in a league with Pep where the champion would be me or him. There, the individual fights made more sense because they can affect the outcome of the title race. In England, if we were to only focus on [Guardiola] and Manchester City and he were to focus on me and Manchester United, there would be no other team to become champions.
“My experience does not allow me to be naive.”
