UFC fighter now turned boxer, Conor McGregor has joined the union of athletes to get a sculpture after Lithuanian artist Edgar Askelovic made a “hyper-realistic” sculpture for the billionaire which weighs up to 100kg and valued at £50,000.
Footballers like Lionel Messi, Pele, Diego Maradona, and Cristiano Ronaldo have all had sculptures made for them but McGregor will maybe go down as the first UFC fighter to have a statue made for him and best still to commemorate his 30th birthday coming up in three days’ time.
It is believed that Askelovic spent five months handcrafting the 100kg sculpture from just his photographs.
The sculpture, entitled Atlas, will be unveiled at London’s JD Malat Gallery on the 14th of July.
The Irish fighter was born in Dublin in 1988 and joined the MMA where he claimed the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s featherweight and lightweight titles before trying his hand at boxing where he fought against Floyd MAYWEATHER in a mega-money fight.
McGregor is due in court later this month to face charges of assault and criminal mischief.
