Chelsea once again appeared to be at the top of their game this past weekend, running riot on a Sheffield side that has failed to win a game this season. That shouldn’t distract us from the fact that these boys are here to cause serious problems for the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City.

With just three points behind table leaders Leicester City, not to underrate Leicester, but they aren’t entirely looking like a team that could really challenge for the title, this puts up the question of if Chelsea could challenge for the title.

Liverpool and Manchester City drew against each other, while City weren’t entirely convincing, Liverpool suffered another long term injury to one of their key players, Trent Alexander Arnold, meaning they would be without Fabinho, Trent and Van Dijk for a while.

This leaves us with Chelsea being the nearest team with the capabilities and personnel to take the mantle from the duopoly of the league by Manchester City and Liverpool.

If you still doubt this Chelsea side, you could ask Chris Wilder about them. “To me, Man City, Liverpool and Chelsea are the top three sides in the country. Just look at Jorginho and Giroud coming off the bench,” he said. And this is coming from a man who has faced all three teams.

Last season, they were four points off their current season tally, and this season, they’ve also scored the most goals in the league, while conceding one of the lowest goals.

Ziyech is creating chances, Kante looks reborn, Zouma and Thiago seem impenetrable, then there’s Reece James and Ben Chilwell owning the flanks, with Werner and Tammy forming a partnership. Not to forget, there’s Havertz out with Coronavirus and Pulisic out with an injury. Should this Chelsea team continue this way, it’s not long before they’re fully in the conversation to challenge for the title.
