‘Despacito’ by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee now has the title of the most viewed video on YouTube. The video for the original version of the song has been viewed over three billion (3,078,198,675) times.
The song, whose title means “slowly” in Spanish, took over Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth’s “See You Again”, which only made its way to the number one spot last month, after overtaking Psy’s “Gangnam Style”, which formerly held the position for over four years.
“See You Again” was released in 2015, which means it took Despacito only seven months to beat a song which spent two years making its way up.
Reacting, Fonsi said of the record-breaking news: “Streaming is a connector for audiences worldwide and it has helped my music reach every corner of the planet. It is truly an honour that ‘Despacito’ is now the most streamed song in history.”
