Chelsea has fined Diego Costa two weeks’ wages to the tune of £300,000 for failing to turn up for training as the dispute over his future rumbles on.
Costa, who remains in his home town of Lagarto in Brazil, claims that Chelsea are treating him “like a criminal” and that he has lost all personal respect for head coach Antonio Conte over the Italian’s handling of the situation.
Conte informed Costa via text message in June that he would not be in Chelsea’s plans for the new season and insists that he will only consider a move back to former club Atletico Madrid who are on a FIFA transfer ban.
Costa is prepared to live out the next year of his contract which runs until June 2019 in Brazil if Chelsea do not agree to sell him back to Atletico where he made his mark.
