Former Stoke City and Fleetwood Town player Dionatan Teixeira has tragically died from a suspected heart attack at the age of 25. The Slovakian was taken ill in his native Brazil and died on Sunday soon after.
The defender who has had trials with Manchester City, joined the Potters in 2014 but only made two substitute appearances during his time in the English top flight – which was blighted by injury.
Fleetwood Town confirmed the sad news on their Twitter handle: “A few hours ago, a good man and an excellent football player, former FC Sheriff player Dionatan Teixeira died. ‘The Brazilian defender was only 25 years old. The whole of the club is shocked by this tragic news. The pain of loss is great. He will remain forever in our hearts.”
Stoke City also released a statement of condolence to the family:
‘The thoughts of all at Stoke City are with his family and friends,’ A statement read.
Teixeira also played for Moldovan side FC Sheriff.
