Ed Sheeran‘s infamous bicycle accident that left him with the broken arm is at the center of a new lawsuit over one of the shows he canceled as a result of the injury.
According to court documents, AEG (the company that handled Sheeran’s tour) is being sued by Marygops Studios, a promoter in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Marygops claims they had a deal with AEG for Sheeran to perform a show on November 9, 2017 in Jakarta.
About two weeks before the show was scheduled to take place, Marygops claims they were informed by AEG that Sheeran would be forced to cancel because of a bicycling accident. Marygops says that AEG told them that Sheeran’s doctors had placed him on four weeks medical leave.
Sheeran posted a video on his Facebook page, explaining the injury had forced him to cancel several shows, including the Jakarta one. He said in the video he was unable to re-schedule the Jakarta concert and apologized to his fans.
According to Marygops, the deal they had with AEG only allowed them to cancel the concert under specific conditions — AEG believed the accident constituted one of those conditions.
But Marygops claims they asked on multiple occasions for AEG to turn over medical records about Sheeran’s injury or the doctor’s four-week medical leave recommendation.
They claim AEG refused to hand over anything so now Marygops is suing because they believe AEG is in breach of the deal.
Marygops is seeking unspecified damages. Sheeran is not a named defendant in the lawsuit.
