Egypt has qualified for their first World Cup in 27 years after they beat Congo-Brazzaville 2-1 to secure top spot in Group E at the expense of Ghana, who could only come out with a draw at Uganda.
Liverpool winger Mohammed Salah was the hero of the night as his last gasp penalty ensured their passage to Russia.
Salah opened the scoring in the 63rd minute before Arnold Bouka Moutou equalized for the Congo. However, when it all looked like the match would end in a draw, Salah converted a 95th minute penalty to spark wild celebrations in stadium amidst tears of joy from the players.
Perhaps, this will wipe away Egypt’s AFCON heartache after they lost 2-1 to champions Cameroon early this year.
