Confederation of African football (CAF) have announced Egypt as the host for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
Egypt beat South Africa, the only other nation to bid, by 16 votes to one with one abstention at a CAF executive committee vote held in Senegal. This comes after Cameroon was stripped of the hosting rights in November owing to slow preparations.
It will be the fifth time Egypt will host the tournament, the most recent was in 2006 and will need to tidy up preparations under 6 months before the start of the event.
Tuesday’s announcement took place in the Senegalese capital Dakar, which will host CAF’s annual awards ceremony later in the day.
