Seyi Shay recently released her Electric Package EP. Here’s a track by track break down of the EP.
Seyi Shay’s second body of work, Electric Package, is coming three years after her debut album Seyi or Shay. The album is an 8-track album with production from Killerbeatz, Krizbeatz, DJ Coublon, Lush Beat, Anatii and Chopstick. She features a DJ on every single song. The artist features include DJ Cuppy, Kiss Daniel, Flavour, Slim Case and Vanessa Mdee.Electric Package Seyi Shay Fun fact about the title of the album, Electric Package. Let’s take a trip down memory lane shall we? Remember Seyi Shay’s now infamous Hip Tv interview? Well if you don’t, let me jog your memory. She was asked what an EP meant and she goofed and said ‘obviously EP stands for electric package’ instead of Extended Play. And now she names her latest EP Electric Package. Talk about owning up to your mistakes right?
Anyway, let’s get into it:

One Love ft. DJ Spinall

Seyi starts off the album on a positive note. Her voice is very comforting on this one. One Love as the title suggests is her preaching and encouraging listeners to be patient and have faith in the process. One life and one love and leave the rest to God. With DJ Spinall providing the ad libs. This one is a stand out song

Alele ft. DJ Consequence, DJ Spinall, Flavour

You already know what to expect when you have Flavour on a track. You are guaranteed to whine your waist. Seyi and Flavour want you to ‘ju dat ibadi’. No sitting on this one, the drums are guaranteed to make you dance. DJ Coublon does well on the production. Certified banger alert

Surrender ft. Kiss Daniel, DJ Neptune

Does Kiss Daniel even have a bad song? Well…I don’t think so. He shines on this song too. Surrender is for the lovers in the house. This is the customary wedding song on most pop albums in Nigeria. Seyi and Kiss Daniel form a lovely pair on this song as they surrender their loves to their significant other

All I Ever Wanted ft. DJ Vision, King Promise, DJ Spinall
Another one for the lovers on this one. No Ghana jollof or Nigerian jollof was harmed in the making of this one. Seyi Shay and Ghana’s King Promise serenade shine bright on the one. Seyi Shay samples (with permission, I hope) Onyeka Owenu’s You and I.

Love You Scatter ft. DJ Cuppy, Vanessa Mdee

Not going far from the theme of love. Seyi Shay enlists the help of two female singers. While Tanzania Vanessa Mdee shines on this, DJ Cuppy sadly falls flat, even with the auto-tuned assisted voice, she barely says anything meaningful on her verse.

D Vibe ft. Danger, Slimcase, Anatii, DJ Tira

The album ends on a low, or on a high depending on if you’re still into the Shaku-Shaku craze. Sadly for me, this is a no. If I hear any Shaku-Shaku song again I’ll lose it. This would have probably worked last year and beginning of the year when Shaku-Shaku still dey shak (see what I did there) Nigerians .This one doesn’t work for me, so I hit the skip button

Final words: Asides a few missteps on some songs, Seyi Shay’s Electric Package does what it’s supposed to do which is deliver an enjoyable listening experience.

I’ll rate it a 3.5/5

Have you listened to the album? What do you think?
