48 hours to the end of the tenure of the chief justice of Nigeria CJN, Mahmud Mohammed, and subsequent exit from office, the President,  Muhammadu Buhari, has neglected and/or failed to endorse the name of the next CJN which is Walter Onnoghen.

A senior advocate of Nigeria SAN, Sebastine Hon, has stated that,  consequent upon the fact that Onnoghen is the next most senior justice of the supreme court, his name has since been recommended by the National Judicial Council NJC,  and forwarded to the president for endorsement and for onward transmission to the senate for confirmation as required by the constitution, but Buhari has failed to respond to the nomination accordingly.

The SAN described the situation as scary and dangerous because,  the process of confirmation by the senate involves rigorous exercises and investigations.

He called on the president to act accordingly and endorse Onnoghen who happens to be the first southerner to occupy the position of CJN in nearly 30 years.
