Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have held their royal wedding at the Windsor castle, home of Queen Elizabeth II on May 19, 2018 and it was a historic day. Meghan Markle is the first coloured, American woman to become a part of the English royal family. But that’s not the only reason why the wedding was historic. check out more reasons below:
— The bride had 10 page boys and bridesmaids.
— She walked down the aisle alone, until the later part of the aisle when Prince Charles accompanied her to meet her would-be husband, Prince Harry. Her father could not make the event, due to health reasons.
— Her veil had 53 flowers representing each commonwealth country.
— The couple are now known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
— There were celebrity friends and family at the wedding, including David and Victoria Beckham, Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian, Oprah Winfrey, George and Amal Clooney, Priyanka Chopra, amongst others.
— Her veil was held in place by Queen Mary’s diamond bandeau tiara, lent to Meghan Markle by The Queen.
— Harry took permission to wear the army uniform with a beard.
— Kate’s profile on Wikipedia has already changed to the Duchess of Sussex.
— Her silk tule veil paid tribute to Princess Diana with its length – it was 5 metres long, just as Diana’s was.
— She wore a Givenchy dress made by the british brand’s first female artistic director, Clare Waight Keller.
— Prince Harry allegedly said to her when she got to the altar, “You look amazing, I’m lucky.”
— The Kingdom Choir, (a mostly black choir), sang the same hymn that was sung at Princess Diana’s burial at the wedding, Stand by Me.
— In her vows, she said “to have and to hold”, not “to obey,” just like Princesses Kate and Diana.
— The message at the ceremony was delivered by an American preacher, Rev. Michael Curry, who delivered a message titled, The power of love.
It was a beautiful and romantic ceremony in all. Congratulations to the latest royal couple!
