#AccelerateDoesKenya was the plan but #TheCoreFashion Kenya stole the show. So here are the microadventures on my first trip to Kenya (note “First Trip” as I have to go back!!!).
Let me give you some backstory… As I sat at my desk at the Accelerate office, working on media plans and content creation ideas for multiple brands, our head of Fashion, the famous Tokyo James came up to me and asked if I would be interested in going to Nairobi to cover The Core Fashion Kenya’s second event.
Of course I jumped at the chance, doing research on Nairobi and all the activities I could squeeze in around the Fashion show.
As I always say “Google is your friend” and oh boy, did we get friendly… One google search made me the office expert on all things Kenya.
So let me start off with a little intro to the country.
Kenya is one of the brightest jewels in East Africa, with its popular and scenic landscapes, where lush greenery lives in unison with skyscrapers and 4 carriage roads. Then they also have their most well-known attraction in their vast wildlife preserves, where everything from elephants and cheetahs to giraffes and rhinos can be seen in their element.
Situated right along the Indian Ocean, they catered to Indian and Arab merchants for centuries and well, they do have some fantastic beaches where the Swahili speaking people of big cities like Mombasa have taken to tourism with all seriousness.
Ok, so if you want more…. Just hop onto Google and before you know it you may be booking your next holiday. But let me not get ahead of myself…
After the research, booking confirmation and planning, we were on our way on Kenya Airways direct to Nairobi. As we landed and were greeted with a cool and remarkably clean airport a big sign bid us “Karibu Kenya” which means “Welcome to Kenya” and wow did we feel welcomed. We breezed through immigration, getting our Visa on arrival and met with a super friendly guy named Pili of the Kenya Tourism team.
He gave us information on the phone sim card to get and a little cute pamphlet designed to look like a Kenyan Passport, which had must-see locations and emergency information.
So we had just landed at 8pm Kenyan time and there was already a warm reception and still so much to do… But, tune in next time for our Taxify ride, The Core Fashion Kenya’s chaperone tales and the opening of a beautiful hotel just for us.
Meanwhile, check out our very first photos of the city of Kenya in the gallery above
