Our #FlashbackFrida is in honour of the delightful Access Bank CEO Awards held earlier this month.
I always love organisations that understand that employees are a very significant force in their levels of growth, visibility and profitability. Having worked in a few places, I must say Access Bank has got it; the sincere care for her employees and also the recognition that they all matter!

This year’s edition of the C.E.O Awards held earlier this month at the Landmark Events Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos. I think the quest to be better as time passes is also one of the organisation’s culture.
This time around, the event had the African theme (it had a blend of Black Panther meets Nigeria flair). From the dancers who wore different costumes representing ethnic groups in Nigeria, to the exquisite decoration of the hall and more importantly, there was a king-sized chair – throne, actually – that bore a striking resemblance to King T’Challa’s throne in the famed Black Panther movie. You bet there were a lot of people taking pictures on the red carpet and on this chair.
Though I did not eat the Ghanaian Kenkeh and Shitoh, I happily helped myself with a variety of beef, rice and Ofada sauce. The menu was super rich- the waiters even ‘hawked’ smoked fish, boiled corn and palm wine. The presentation of the different foods was just amazing.
Oscar Oyinsan, Broadcaster and Compere extraordinaire, and Mojibade Shosanya, Accelerate’s News presenter and Banker were the anchors for the day. They both brought to the event their A-Game. Mind you, Moji also got recognized as the Access Bank’s ambassador of the year. You go girl!
Of course, most of the highest-level executives of the Bank were present, Stephanie Busari of CNN Africa was also present and many other dignitaries alike.
When it was time to present awards, all of staff members were acknowledged and appreciated, but we all know that some people’s efforts were recognized because they stood out and went the very extra mile.
I like that not only staff from Nigerian offices or branches won, but even staff from Ghana, Kenya were also awarded. The queen of the day was Omobolanle Victor – Olaniyan, Head of the Sustainability Unit of the Corporate Communications, who was awarded the Employee of the year 2018. Wow! It was such an emotional night as The Group MD/C.E.O of Access Bank, Herbert Wigwe made the award presentation to her himself.
Not only did award recipients get frames or plaques, they also got very significant credit alerts and this made everything even sweeter! The event ended with a recitation of the National Anthem and of course, a very cool after-party for people who wanted to boogie, and Herbert was not left out of that.
