Dallas Wings and D’Tigress forward Evelyn Akhator has been shortlisted for the 2018 FIBA Women’s World Cup MVP.
The 23-year old has recorded 58 points in total in the four games she has featured in, including their victory over Greece yesterday.
Other nominees for the award are Ting Shao (China), Emma Meesseman (Belgium), Breanna Stewart (USA), Liz Cambage (Australia), Sandrine Gruda (France), Astou Ndour (Spain),Tina Charles (USA), Endene Miyem (France), Brittney Griner (USA), Marta Xargay (Spain), Kim Mestdagh (Belgium), Marine Johannes (France) and Alba Torrens (Spain)
The D’Tigress defeated Greece 57-56 in the play-off and will take on defending Champions USA in the quarter-finals later today.
Nigeria is the first African country to qualify for the quarter-final since 1953.
Meanwhile, Coach Otis Hughley has revealed that his family had survived an accident few hours before the game in Tenerife, Spain though no life was lost.
